Real-time notes, smart summaries, and instant search: how Google is reshaping Meet with Gemini
A new era for video conferencing
Google keeps investing in artificial intelligence to improve its suite of apps. After Docs, Gmail, and Drive, it’s now time for Google Meet to take a leap forward thanks to Gemini, the AI assistant at the heart of Google’s strategy.
The goal: simplify online meetings, reduce repetitive tasks, and provide advanced tools to boost productivity.
What Gemini can do in Google Meet
The arrival of Gemini introduces several game-changing features:
- Smart notes and summaries: automatically identifies key points of the conversation.
- Real-time support: fetches information from Drive, Gmail, and even the web while you speak.
- Privacy first: insights are shown only to the user and never shared with other participants.
A banner or audio alert notifies all participants of Gemini’s presence, while the host decides whether to enable it.
Availability and supported plans
At launch, Gemini in Meet is available only on desktop, in English, and for selected paid plans:

The rollout will expand over the coming months, adding more languages and mobile support.
Why it matters
With Gemini, Google Meet evolves into more than just a video conferencing platform: it becomes a digital assistant for smarter, faster, and more productive meetings.
